Car accident statistics - (Sarah)

Statistics for car accidents that we could use in the end credits of the film:

  1.  https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/road-accidents-and-safety-statistics
  2. http://www.rospa.com/faqs/detail.aspx?faq=296
  3. http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/research/briefing-papers/SN02198/reported-road-accident-statistics
  4. http://www.rospa.com/statistics/
  • Young car drivers (aged 17-24) had more drink drive accidents per 100 thousand licence holders and per billion miles driven than any other age group
  • In 2011 there were 280 deaths due to drink driving – accounting for 15% of all road fatalities.
  • In 2012, there were 195,723 reported casualties on the roads of Great Britain, including 1,754 fatalities and 23,039 serious casualties.
  • Around 400 people a year are killed in crashes in which someone exceeds the speed limit or drives too fast for the conditions.
  • Around 280 people die a year in crashes in which someone was over the legal drink drive limit.
  • More than 300 deaths a year involve someone being "careless, reckless or in a hurry", and a further 120 involve "aggressive driving".
  •  The vast majority of car drivers pass the breath test - in 2012 3.4% failed, representing 1.9% of all car drivers involved in accidents. Hence, the likelihood of a car accident involving a driver under the influence of alcohol is around one-in-fifty.

I also had a look on YouTube for any other car accident statistics, although this one may be for America, I think it will still help us for the context of out film:

  1. Good research here. I'm not sure about whether you should use these in your film however -it wouldn't be a feature of a short film normally, and it may confuse your fiction aim with public information. Consider carefully what type of film you're making here before deciding whether it should be included.
