Representation applied to our film - (sarah)

Representation

Drink driving -

We have used the issue of drink driving which adds a slightly educational aspect to our film. We are representing drink driving in a negative way as the characters end up in a car crash in which 'Lucy' is killed. I think the filming from the girls leaving the pub through the story up till they have the crash gives the perspective of the characters so gives more sense of their mentaility at the time.

Age -

The young age of the main characters is represented as slightly negative as they are portrayed as irresponsible for drink driving. The audience will be able to tell the age of the characters through the costume, loud music and language they used. This is using stereotypes of youth.

Gender -

The characters are represented as stereotypical 18 year old girls. With their costume styled as quite girly and dressed up. Our restricted narration works well as the audience is led to believe it is less likely for a young girl to kill her bestfriend by drink driving as girls may stereotypically be considered more innocent or vulnerable.

Social Class/status

  • car - the make of car used
  • pub - shows they can afford to go out drinking, but don't have much money, otherwise we wouldve placed them coming out from a bar
  • iphone - Using an iphone rather than a cheaper phone shows their social class as B/C1. An iphone may also help indicate their age as iphones are very common and popular with the younger generation.
  • costume - the characters will be dressed up for a night out and therefore shown as a higher class rather than if they were shown in casual, boring clothes.
